| War Between The States (a.k.a. The American Civil War) "We could have pursued no other course without dishonor. And sad as the results have been, if it had all to be done over again, we should be compelled to act in precisely the same manner." --- General Robert E. Lee, C.S.A. |

| "Governor, if I had foreseen the use these people desired to make of their victory, there would have been no surrender at Appomattox, no, sir, not by me. Had I seen these results of subjugation, I would have preferred to die at Appomattox with my brave men, my sword in this right hand."
--- General Robert E. Lee, CSA - as told to Texas ex-governor F. W. Stockdale |

Searching for the graves of 4 LANHAM brothers: 1. Pvt. Notley Lanham, 45th Ga. Regt. Inf., Co. Lanham, Washington Light Arty. (Augusta Ga. unit), Pritchard’s Co., and 36th Ga. Inf. Regt. (Villepigues), Co. B. 3. George J. Lanham, Washington Light Arty. (Augusta Ga. unit), Pritchard’s Co., and 36th Ga. Inf. Regt. (Villepigues), Co. B. 4. James W. Lanham, Ga. Inf., Ogeechee Minute Men, Garrison’s Co. We believe Gilbert, George, and James survived the war and are buried somewhere in Georgia. In great deeds something abides. On great fields something stays. Forms change and pass; bodies disappear, but spirits linger to consecrate ground for the vision-place of souls. And reverent men and women from afar, and generations that know us not and that we not know of, heart-drawn to see where and by whom great things were suffered and done for them, shall come to this deathless field, to ponder and dream, and lo! The shadow of a mighty presence shall wrap them in his bosom, and the power of the vision pass into their souls. Brig. Gen. | If this cause, that is dear to my heart, is doomed to fail, I pray heaven may let me fall with it, while my face is toward the enemy and my arm battling for that which I know is right."
--- Major General Patrick R. Cleburne before his fatal wound at the battle of Franklin, Tennessee. |
